This class is designed to introduce students to the events taking place in the world around them at the local, national, and international levels. They will learn about the different sources of “news” and the challenges of discerning “truth” from “propaganda.” Each class will begin with a multiple choice quiz addressing the major news items of the previous week, and each student then will share with the class a newsworthy item of his or her own choosing. One of the topics we will discuss will be what constitutes newsworthiness! Past Current Events classes historically have been lively and fun, leading to debates over differing viewpoints and a greater awareness of the world in which we live.
