What does pop culture—books, movies, music, television, and advertising—teach us about the “right way” to be women and girls? That’s the big question we’ll tackle in this high school level class, which is designed to be both a scholarly introduction to classic and contemporary feminist theory and an exploration of women and girls in contemporary pop culture—we’ll explore feminism through a diverse collection of works, including Ani DiFranco, Virginia Woolf, Heavenly Creatures, Dar Williams, Dogfight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supergirl, Orange Is the New Black,Carole King, Adrienne Rich, Simone de Beauvoir,  and more.
